One of my admired ex-leader and friend plan to resign - reminded me on my previous mine.

In most of my resigning case, there's a sad feeling..not a regret but more like a "broken hearted"...a separation with those who you love.. a part of you. A part that had been accompanying us but no longer there. A memory of those series of headache that kept the adrenalin up or those people who gave you their hand or problems ... which each of it is so unique that cannot be found in the new job....no matter how similiar it is , it'll be a different one !

And no matter how I want to re-experieince it...we can't ..it'll would be a different one...each of is is unique one - come only once ....knowing this...why don't we do our best shot on each opportunity given to us ?

The stored memories are re-searched, so are the association with it. Some have good one, perhaps some have bitter one! Some are as if they never grew old, some are already passed away !

Once again the paths are crossed, a sign that we still have time - but a reminder that nothing are going to last forever. So let all be all good !

My first 2 years in college was very hard - at least for me ! Perhaps that's why it's not easy at that time for me to really say good bye to my high school ! Although my college was in other city, but I visited my ex-high school almost every month !

Only later, in my 3rd college year, one day I finally could really said good bye to my past ! And only after that, I found myself could appreciated & enjoyed my college time much better (proper) !

No matter how we want it, we can't turn the time back ! The appreciation on what was given is by moving forward ! The learning of past is to build the future ! The present time, enable us to do it !

Suppose we should come home very..very ... late after midnight ...and find our wife angry with us ! Sometimes we ask her "Are you angry ?" - and what usually is the answer ?

Most participants in that session answered, " She'll say ...No, I'm not angry!" - I was assuming the same one as well ! The point is, we know she was angry even when she said "I'm not angry !".

Human have incredible ability to understand others ! We did it naturally - specially with those who are closed with our heart.

I tried my answer as "If you know your wife was angry, then you should be able to read costumer !"

It's the time - I'll be resigning from this Bosch company !

It's not easy, but I have to move in to our family company. I've been delaying the decision until a recent crisis in our family company. In a way, the crisis helped me to decide the"move out" to "move in".

I have my good opportunity to look for the successor, I did offered the position to my team but no one take it so we hunted for the candidate from outside. She is an ex General Manager from PHILIPS ,and my friend , I'm glad we found her - now she's already on board. As for me, I served my few month to do the transition with her.

I once said - without blink "If you dare to enter a company, you should dare to quit - one day the job will be finished !". I did prepared myself by saying it, but still I'm finding it so difficult. I realized it after I found myself trying too hard to give advise to the new GM on how the business should be run. Looks like I need the transition more than the new GM or the business does. Perhaps that's why my director insisted that I should accept the transition time, thanks friend!

The other hard part is the team ! I'd describe them as those who really put their full heart on their job, and what more a company can ask more ! A team that any company would dream to have it - I would ! We're not a bunch of genious guy, but the team did tripled the business within 2 years which brought Indonesian team rewarded as "the best natioanal sales organization" in asia pacific at 2005 (it's flatten in 2006). We still kept the trophy in the office - a model of Dukati motorcycle.

Reiner, my collegue & friend reminded us, often "Work is just a context & reason to meet and to relate with people, it's about and for the people!".The more I think, the more I admire this sentence - no matter how one see, use or treat their business or job, it is in the end will be about people!

As Reiner's statement have been inspiring the team - at least me - It taught me to a better understanding on "often the real leader is a hidden one - not neccessarily the formal one !"

It's an 15 years events , I remember I read a sentence of "Just do the best while you still can - there's a time for everything" - next month the farewell party already !

But most important , again I quoted Reiner "It's all about the bless from Lord for all of us !". Shall we move on !

Of course no ISM have proof to be succeed - the time hasn't stopped ! The most mattered is these conlict always proven to have millions humans to be slaughtered.

I read in newspaper - on something about I call "determination culture" !

If a statement of "human are created by environment" seen as human are totally determined by it's surrounding culture, it'll introduced the thinking that "human are passive" - worse, be irresponsible for their action & thinking ! Any of action can always be labeled as only a reaction.

Infact cultures are defined by human behaviour, in the end it is human that make the decision on how they would think then act. Since the world start, external factor always been difficult, it's an endless hard struggling but to think that human cannot decide, is to surrender !

Without struggling , the statement "I should stop to hate" will be naturally weaken, which means the strenghten of "I hate them because they hate me !" statement. And it practical world it simply means more war & killing !

I heard in radio two days ago, a disease is to be healed - not to cure disease with another disease !

There have been ISM after ISM raised in this world, all claimed as the better one if not the best answer - but yet it end up in having people killing their kind ! In the end , it always turned to simply about power & money - or in a negative sentence, fear of losing it !

By law, it's something like 2 times of you working years - multiply by your salary (with some other plus n plus ) !

Let say, for 5 years, it'll be more than 10 times salary ! A relatively high amount hence become sensitive !

Why don't it made it simpler & straight forward ! Just aggresively raised the salary up front so the quarrel after is saved ! Actually government had some plan to take some percentage of salary taken by both employee and employers - to be paid as a termination fee later on if something happen. It's a very common in procedure in other country !

They , the so called parties that claim protecting labor should agree with it....the simple & straight forward ideas...unless...., it's the potential dispute that they are keeping ! Until now, the law is not approved - as those party strongly disagree !

"Salty" - the taste - I think taken from the world "salt"! Unlike sweet for taste of sugar, or hot for taste of chilli, or sour taste of tamarind (perhaps can be compared to peppery).

Salt is "given" to almost all cooking to provide the taste - we wouldn't say "Add a chicken into salt" but "add salt into the chicken" !

Unlike other ingridients, salt is the must have - you could choose not to use chilli , sugar or pepper - but most often , we should use the salt - or else the cooking is not the cooking !

But although it's a most often used, we don't name a cooking after "salt". A soup is named after chicken, minestrone, corn or anything else - but not a "salt soup, although the salt is off course added to the soup ! After give itself to the soup taste, it'll not seen but disolved !

The salt is specificly used for it's saltiness - not for the sweetness , hot , or other taste - if the salt is not salty, it have no longer it's usefullness !

4th day of Jakarta flood , road are becoming one with the rivers !

People are evacuating themselves - those who have nowhere to go have to stay in a kind of emergency refugee post. They are a schools, mosque or just below a highway. It is assumed that few hundred thousands people are on these post - scattered all arround Jakarta.

The water came & destruct everything, your furniture, kitchen set ,electronic, house, car engine, car interior - and so many other things.

There're some casualities too , mostly old people or baby - some are drowned in the stream , some few got hit from electricity.

The governor said, "Don't over - politize this disaster , this a natural phenomena !" - he is the one who recently said there will be no flood this year - somewhere in last November.

I saw a statement on TV, "Never before a kind of this flood, since Dutch time - but here we are ! " , I hope this statement will not be stated again in the future -but yes most of the canal are still the old one made by the dutch - at that time perhaps they didn't see that the population will be 18 million people - but we do !

Jakarta was crippled by big flood 5 years ago - it's coming again now but worse !

Outside my house, the water is already at chest level and kept on rising !

In some places, water level is already 3 meters..yes ..it's above the roof - basically water have wiped out the whole house !

Hundred of thousands people are forced to evacuate themselves, others not so lucky get trapped in houses, some of them is sitting on the roof wait for help ! In the news, at least 20 people died !

If after 5 years ago nothing has been done - looks like nothing will be done now, so while preparing for the next one, De Ja Vu the great Jakarta floods

Within 2 years (2003-2005), our product sales in Indonesia is tripled - profitably. Unlike in most country, competitors - Honeywell, Siemens & Panasonic is no longer above us in sales - after these long ,finally we're the market leader.

We found it very relieving and exciting ! Relief to feel the mission is accomplished, excited to think that it's an important & right contribution ! Perhaps something like "we do the right things"

But it was flatten in 2006 !

So I planned to argue - the market share & optimalization ! It'll be a strong argument as Indonesia do have the highest market share in Asia, 21%. It's 3 times higher than Singapore,the second best - with 7% (average % of asia pacific is 2-3%).

Infact, worldwide , there're only 3 country with market share above 10% - German, Belgium & Indonesia - and yes....it's a german company ! Just for note, the data is an official assumption - taken from an independence marketing agency in Germany. (Yes, perhaps some deviation, but wouldn't be that too far !)

I was in the region meeting recently, I canceled my plan for the argument - it's an irrelevant argument anyway ! Not only because in spite of high market share, the nominal sales is relatively small (higher than Malaysia,Vietnam,Phillipine,Korea but lower than India,Thailand,China & Australia) - but basically you are a problem if you can't contribute a further grow !

Some friends blamed me "You grow too soon, if you give it all too soon, what would left for your negotiation then?"

But No, we didn't regret of doing the task - question is, what is our task !

We receive the mail from HQ, German , about the market size & share per country. It's said to be done by an independent surveyor company - which the estimation is not far from what we estimated !

What cheers us is , Indonesia is stated to be in 3rd highest market share in the world - after German & Belgium and the highest in Asia Pasific ! In a way, it's kinda give a feeling that we did right and good - at least according to ourselves !

Which the credit is owed to Reiner, King ,Halim & Ida Hotnida - the team in Indonesia ! I really admire their genuine & sincerity to work & help !

Isn't cooking in a way similiar like music ?

Note that works together - sounds that blended together - rhytem that helped it flow ! As it is ingridients that blended together - handled in various way into a food with that "harmonized" taste !

Indonesian, the 16 thousand something islands with 200 million population indeed have a very rich culture which result a various way of making & eating foods.

There're Padang , Sunda, Medan, Bali , Jogya , Manado , Madura , Palembang , Lombok, Ambon, Irian, Nusatenggara, Pontianak ,Cirebon Jakarta....- I just stopped here as there are too many - these different region have their own food - imagine how rich are the country !

I think Indonesian cooking involves a lot of raw spices ,herbs & seeds - a mortar pestle is an important instrument. It often emphasis the strong taste & aroma as shrimp or fish paste ( a fermentated fish or shrimp) - we call it "terasi" , in other asian region is "balacan" . (For other version you could use a a crushed deep fried shrimp head or a dried small shrimp).

One of the favourite things is the sambal - a chilli paste for accompanying hot steam rice with dishes as sea food, poultry or vegetables. Trying to describe it, here is the rough recipe...but please do checking accross the internet for a more detail one - just click "sambal terasi" or just sambal.

Basically it's a mixture of chilli, garlic & shallots made into a paste. A combination of hot & excotic flavour ! Add with some balacan or terasi or a shrimp /fish paste - there goes a strong taste & smell add in !

You can use it raw but i often cook the chilli , garlic & shallots in a hot cooking oil until the flavour is released - not too long ! Move them into a mortar pestle for grinding & mixing add - make it into a paste - there goes the basic paste of chilli paste !

Take a small amount of terasi or balacan, or the shrimp paste or if you want a stronger smell, grill it ! Add ,grind & mix it to the chilli paste - there goes you Sambal terasi ! If you can find the terasi, try to fry the shrimp head until it's crisp and crush it finely !

Off course there so many variation for your creativity such as add tomatoes , brown sugar , tamarind , curry things, coconut milk, lemon grass, lemon , fruit, lemon leaves...it's up to you as the arranger !

Or you could use other method such as grill, boil, stir fry , or just used a raw ingriedients , (or combination )...it's just so many ways to make just a chilli paste ...amazing .huh...??

Earthquake - this time in Jakarta

Just today, about an hour ago , an earthquake in Jakarta. The central is said to be in the Selat Sundanesse Strait - just above Jakarta with 6,2 Ritcher scale - people are worrying it's potential to create a Tsunami - a warning is announced in TV - but so far nothing happen, Thanks God !

Withing this just one half year - there're already 2 tsunami and many earthquake plus volcanoes eruption in this country , Indoensia - such an unusual phenomenon ! Anybody compared it with the history ?

Casualities is raising to at least 397 person dead - many still missing.
They were suddenly strucked with 5-10 m tsunami waves - it happen perhaps some 30-40 minutes after the earthquake - should they can realised the threat a little bit faster - perhaps the casualities can be reduced.

It is reported that the water reached 2-3 km from the shore lines. There are casualities , mostly those who are in the beach line - reported 20 people found in Pangandaran beach including a foreigner. At least there are 2 hotel right in front of the beach that are damaged - strucked by the tsunami . Other affected place are Kebumen village, Tasikmalaya, Pangandaraan , Cilacap - basically the south line of Java.

Evacuation now should be already going on - people are rushing to a higher place , like a hill. Hope this government people can take the job - specially in this time where they are required to do quick anticipation !

By now, the water is reported to be back to the normal level - but people are still scared - they do not want to quickly go back to their home.

There were 5 times of earthquake reported today - the scale were 5 to 6 Ritcher scale.

Smaller earthquake was also reported in NusaTenggara Island - but so far no serious damages is reported.

Exactly in this lake - was previously a hill , a part of a mountain ! It was suddenly ruptured and swallowed by earth - then filled up with water - become a lake.

An earthquake in Indonesia ,again ,- more than 5,5 ritcher !

This lead to the tsunami in the south Java lines - perhaps is not that destructives as in Aceh but it is said to reach 2-3 km !

Within this few months, already so many thing happen - the eartquake in Jogjakarta and the volcano eruption also in Jogjakarta.

Even the a part of hill that suddenly cracked and lost as it is swallowed by earth - then becoming a lake in Ambon - sometimes in this July.

My first chinesse new year event , last 2 years, I met the so called the "respected" elder of my wife's family. Seems everybody is listening to him.

He wore a red shirt, a tradition for chinesse new year, instead I wore black shirt. I think we looked at each other oddly perhaps because "Why red shirt, it looked odd !" versus "why black shirt, didn't you respect the value & culture behind it ?". Then came the lunch time, just when I'm about to take my turn to take the food somebody behind me said with smile "You should give the elders to take it first". As I'm already halfway in taking the food, I continued it anyway.

In chinesse culture, elders is respected and prioritized. As for me, I prefer effetiveness & effeciency - therefore I use black shirt as it is just suit me.

After this event, I began to think "yes, elder should be respected - it's a good culture !"

So there's a second chinesse new year event, last year. This time I used the red shirt - same as last year, I met the "grandfather". But this time it him who wore black shirt. He shooked my hand while I tried to give the regards in chinesse style (kiong hie). He said "Hi, no need so formal, it's a modern time !"

So the same odd look to each other remained happen again !

Following this "causal method" , would we meet a circle of revenge ?

I used to watch a kung fu Chinese movies where a father being killed, followed with the son kill back the killer, continuous by the son of the killer kill back the warrior son, and to the grandson and so on .....until you do not know anymore who is the warrior or who is the killer !

An old circle that are still moving to this post-modern age ! During the Ambon tragedy, A pregnant mother was "literally" butchered, her stomach was slit with her baby inside her - so tragic that the victim's family took the revange by butcher back the killer & any the killers family & related...Scary huh...!

Perhaps that can explain why so many people died by becoming an effective & creative killing machine for each other and how this circle is difficult to be stopped once it started. By this, can human understand how immoral & irresponsible those who use hattrace as strategy ?

"The word of terror" can't describe the essence of 911, Bali Bomb , or other similar tragedy - if terror is only meant to spread the fear ! The evilness of this tragedy is - I think - is mainly in how human are able to literally burn & blast civilian as an object of operation ! I took this picture across one of the gate outside center of old Jerusalem. It's a part of very interesting large of grave yard ! It's a grave yard for Muslims, Jews, Christians - See how they silently lied side by side - in the city that has been used for their reason of killing each other ? - unfortunately it happen after they died....

This grave yard is so popular perhaps as it's said that Jews, Christians & Muslims belief that Someone will come here and pass this area !

Almost in the same time - 3 bombs exploded in Bali - yesterday evening. They were 2 in Jimbaran beach areas and 1 in Raja Restaurant - Kuta. Police said , It is TNT base ! So much effort for an organized crime for civilian !

The bomb filled with a lot of small iron ball (bearing). When the bomb exploded, these iron ball hit the victims just like bullets ! Regretfully, there are severed casualities - 22 people died - mostly because the iron ball. So much effort to make maximum damage !

There were 3 incomplete body, suspected to be the attacker - a suicidal attack ?

How come human ask other human to sacrifice themselves (blown into pieces by bomb) in order to kill others (civilian) by bomb ?

Beware of these poisonous hattrace - one of the most deceivefull, infected & strong ideas ! It must have been a favourite of most coward, as in killing others (mostly unarmed civilian) ,they deceive others to literally blown themselves !

Describing important element in developing skill & competency , Mr Yeoh - our presenter, categorizing the competency level of staff in 4 level - the 1st for junior , the 4th for the expert. If one move to a higher or a shifted position , the cycle will start again from 1.

From level 1 to 2, the willingness is required -one must want it !
From level 2 to 3, the passion , just a willingness is not sufficient !
From level 3 to 4, the determination , even passion is not enough for driving one to pursue the excelence !

In "determination" the fun is not in the job itself - but in getting the job done.

Further he shared his experience as HR Director in a very respected MNC- "Rare I see people with determination , but they who have it also rarely fail to have a fruitfull & succeed carrer !"

Then he add " But for this, there're always times frame and price to pay, nothing is free !" There's no shortcut on shaping it - have to go over processes & experiences - time is needed. (and time is very expensive as we can't turn it back!)

Relativism

"Everything is relative - no fix things !" , a friend , trying to explain that sometimes to cheat is not bad.
"Refer to your statement , your statement should be a relative one also ?", I think to cheat is wrong.
Until one find the point of reference , he's still lost.
